Originally published

The Arab environment ministers' council entrusted Morocco with establishing contacts with the European Union to initiate an efficient cooperation between the two sides in environment related matters.

The decision was made by the council's 11th session underway in Cairo under the chairmanship of Morocco, which is represented in the gathering by minister of territory planning, environment, urbanism and housing, Mohamed Yazghi.

The council also set up a committee of experts that will define priorities and probe the stands of Arab states and Arab organizations on environment issues.

In his address before the council, Yazghi called Arab states to adopt a common strategy to take up the challenges thrown at the Arab states and to keep pace with the modern trend while preserving the ecology system.

The Moroccan official also called for harmonizing stands at international fora, recalling that the environment issue has become a key element in all international deals.
