Originally published

King Mohammed VI, accompanied by Prince Moulay Rachid, currently touring several north-eastern provinces, arrives today in Taza.

The king spent the night in Oujda where he arrived in the afternoon coming from Nador. He was met warmly by hundreds of thousands of inhabitants from the area.

In Saidia, 60 km west of Oujda, he inaugurated the city fishing and leisure port.

The harbor built 5 km from the Moulouya river estuary by the equipment department as part of a regional scheme to promote infrastructures in northern provinces is a major asset for tourism which opens new socio-economic opportunities in the area.

Works started in 1997 necessitating a $ 7 million financing to provide the resort with a harbor catering for both boats and water sports, as well as for the needs of the fishing activity.

More than 600 people and 300 fishing boats in traditional fishing boast an average catch of 1,300 tons a year and a revenue of 1,2 million USD.
