Sudanese governor: People's army builds forces in Eritrea

Originally published

The Sudanese daily al-Rai al-Am quoted the ruler of Kassala province, Mahmoud Hameed, on Wednesday as saying that forces belonging to the Sudan People's Liberation Army recently started to reassemble in Eritrea after they were stationed in Uganda.

Hameed described this step as "a clear aggressive indication" from the government of Eritrea of violating the peace agreement signed this year between Khartoum and Asmara under the auspices of Qatar. He added that the Sudanese government is "ready to deter any attack by the rebels at any time."

Meantime, an official at the National Congress, the ruling party in Khartoum, Muhammad Hassan al-Amin, accused the government of Eritrea of facilitating attacks by the Sudanese opposition against the Sudanese territories, starting from the Eritrean territories.

The Sudanese papers spoke about two explosions that took place last Monday in a fuel reservoir and a fuel station for the Shell company in Kassala. The Sudanese authorities said the two attacks were launched by the opposition.
