US senator calls for backing Iraqi resistance
A member of the US Senate for the Democratic Party, Bob Kerry, has called for backing the Iraqi resistance in order to topple Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's government.
The US Washington Post newspaper quoted Kerry as saying in an article published in its Monday issue that backing provided by the US helped liberate several countries during the current century, adding that there is still "unfinished business" before the US to do and that the most urgent among these is Saddam Hussein's government.
He added that the Iraqi opposition will meet in New York to convene its first national council. He considered this step as very important on the road to liberating Iraq.
Kerry considered the Iraqi government as ailing and collapsing. He added that liberating Iraq "is not only inevitable but also may be imminent," and when this matter becomes true the reality of this region will be revealed, saying "A democratic Iraq will transform the Middle East."
