Israel permits Syrian detainee to contact his family
In a report from occupied Jerusalem the al-Quds Press said that Israel has allowed detained Syrian citizen Yasser al-Mouzen to contact members of his family in Damascus to ask one of them to donate him a kidney and save his life.
Al-Quds Press quoted the Israeli daily Maariv released on Monday as saying that the permission to make the call was given according to a decision made by the Israeli higher court which was discussing an appeal submitted by al-Mouzen through his lawyer, in which he asked for his release due to his bad health.
Al-Quds Press added that al-Mouazen was a member of a cell for the People's Front for the Liberation of Palestine while it was in its way to Israel. It said he was arrested and infected with kidney disease.
The Israeli paper added that the Syrian health minister sent a message to Israel through the International Committee of the Red Cross, in which he expressed his readiness to provide medical treatment for this patient in Syria. The Israeli court refused to release the detainee, who is sentenced to 25 years imprisonment.
