Husseini opposes Barak's statements regarding Jerusalem

Faisal Husseini the official responsible for the Jerusalem file in the Palestinian government refused the declaration of Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak last week regarding Jerusalem as being the unified and eternal capital of Israel, while he welcomed Jordan's role in final status negotiations.

Husseini said, "The Palestinian is the one who formed and wrote history in Jerusalem, and we know that the Israelis escalate their illusions like what happened in the past when they said that they will not get out of Henian, but they did."

He added, "Barak may say what he wants, yet eventually he has to choose to reach a political solution relying on the basis of land-for-peace and resolution N242."

Husseini denied any Palestinian- Israeli communications regarding Jerusalem, adding Jordan will be affected by the final status, whether on borders and the refugees, and, "We must coordinate with Jordan regarding final status negotiations."
