Jordanian Minister of Transportation Nasser Lawzi said that Israel "pledged to work on implementing the joint airport project with Jordan and remove obstacles facing it as well as to implement it with the rapid establishing style."

Lawzi said after the meeting of the Israeli - Jordanian transportation committee yesterday in Aqaba that the obstacle to implementing the airport is that Israeli Minister of Transportation Yitzhak Mordechai, who headed his country's delegation in the meetings, said he is currently discussing solving this problem with environmental officials in Israel and waiting for a positive response to start the project.

Lawzi said, "The meeting that was previously twice delayed came for the agreement of the joint running Aqaba airport, especially as the agreement calls for transferring 150 passenger flights monthly to Aqaba airport from the Israeli airport in Eilat, yet only very few flights were transferred till now."
