Gaddafi calls for establishing African Congress matching US Congress' power, validity
Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi, called on the African states to establish an African Congress by the end of the year 2000 to be equal in its validity and power to US Congress, confirming that this step would form a historical turning point for all of Africa.
In a statement to the Nigerian media broadcast yesterday by Libyan television, Gaddafi said, "We will give the initiative to the African people by the end of the year 2000, as it will put the general interest of Africa in the first place and concern with the power and freedom of Africa." He said the African Congress will lead the continent under a serious public leadership.
Gaddafi said, "The African leadership, through the conferences of the summit, hasn't moved forward since the establishment of the Organization of African Unity at the beginning of 1960s till now."
He said that sanctions imposed on Libya by the UN Security Council were really imposed by the US, saying that many countries were affected by these sanctions and not only Libya.
