Moussa: We support Syrian stance toward restoring the Golan

Originally published

Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa said his country will continue working to support the Syrian position toward restoring the Syrian Golan Heights, because, "Egypt is keen on activating all tracks of negotiations in the Middle East peace process."

Concerning reports that Syria is coordinating with Jordan and the United States away from Egypt, Moussa said the Syrians have the right to coordinate with whom they choose and that Egypt can never have any reservations about any coordination made by the Syrians because it is connected with their occupied territory.

Moussa reiterated that Egypt's position conforms with the Syrian position of restoring Syrian Golan totally, adding that the importance Egypt gives to the Syrian and Lebanese tracks is the same importance it gives to the Palestinian track and that the situation of the Palestinian track is special and demands greater efforts from Egypt.

Concerning statements that the USA is playing a lesser role in the peace process on the Palestinian - Israeli track, the Egyptian FM said the Palestinian and Israeli sides will negotiate alone, while the US role is still the main sponsor for the peace process, including the Israeli - Palestinian track.

Moussa, added that there is actually movement in the negotiations although there are still some points to be negotiated, thus it is early to speak about any specific results.
