Fatah, DFLP call for comprehensive national dialogue to reach stance for final status talks
A round of the Palestinian dialogue between the Fatah movement, chaired by Palestinian President Yasser Arafat, and the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine chaired by its secretary general, Nayef Hawatemah, concluded yesterday by issuing the Cairo statement, which called on all the Palestinian public forces to take part in a comprehensive national dialogue to crystallize the Palestinian stance for the final status negotiations with Israel.
The statement confirmed the importance of hastening the preliminary steps aimed at announcing the sovereignty of Palestine in all occupied territories since 1967 in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and Jerusalem, adding that this announcement is not negotiable.
Meanwhile, the two sides have reached an agreement on a proposed formula that would open the way for the participation of all factions and Palestinian national forces in supervising the final status negotiations through the executive committee of the Palestinian Liberation Organization.
Meanwhile, Fatah and the democratic front have decided to postpone the examination of the proposal presented by the front so as to hold a referendum between the Palestinian people in the Palestinian territories and the Diaspora on any agreement concerning issues reserved for the final status talks.
