Al-Kabareiti discusses in Damascus conditions in the region
Chief of the Jordanian royal court Abdul Karim al-Kabareiti made a short visit to Damascus, during which he held talks with high-ranking Syrian officials on the latest developments in the Middle East.
This visit, which was not officially announced, falls in the course of the continued Jordanian - Syrian coordination as well as in the framework of remarkable relations between Damascus and Amman, according to a well-informed Jordanian source.
Syrian- Jordanian relations have witnessed notable improvements in all areas following King Abdullah's assuming power in Jordan in February. The Jordanian king has visited Damascus twice, most recently on July 26. The king's visit to Damascus was preceded by a visit to Damascus by al-Kabareiti and Jordanian Foreign Minister Abdul Illah al-Khatib.
At the meantime, the Syrian radio in a commentary on Sunday by SANA's director general, Fayez al-Sayyegh, criticized the concept of peace as seen by Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, "which is linked to Israeli military supremacy, force and deterrent." Al-Sayyegh called for ensuring the "proper atmospheres" for attaining peace in the region.
The radio indicated a speech delivered by Barak before army officers of the military academy in which he pledged to preserve the deterrent force of the Israeli army, while in the same speech Barak called on Syrian President Hafez al-Assad to forget about the past and to hold deals under the title of peace.
