Jordanian endeavors to win issue of royal pardon for Daqamseh

Originally published

The chief of the Jordanian lawyers, Saleh El-Armouti, said that the lawyers' union is working hard on issuing a special pardon for the soldier Ahmed Daqamseh fired at female Israeli students, killing seven, during their visit to El-Bakoura two years ago.

In press statements yesterday in Amman, El-Armouti said the subject was discussed with Jordanian Prime Minister Abdul Roauf al-Rawabdeh, but the government believes that it must be carefully studied.

El-Armouti added that Daqamseh could have been pardoned in the general pardon issued by Jordan's King Abdullah II months ago, especially as the Israeli security authorities have recently released persons who assaulted civilians in the West Bank.

The chief of the investigation committee in the Jordanian deputy's council, Mohammed El-Azayedah, said the committee sent a letter last week to King Abdullah, urging him to release Daqamseh and that it is still waiting for an answer.
