Originally published

The Kuwaiti daily al-Rai al-Am issued on Saturday quoted Egyptian diplomatic sources as saying that contacts are being made between the foreign ministers of the Damascus Declaration states in order to set a date for their next meeting due to be held in Kuwait, due to their previous meeting held in Doha in November 1998.

The Egyptian sources told the Kuwaiti daily that the next meeting of the Damascus Declaration signatory states (Bahrain, Egypt, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria and the United Arab Emirates) will discuss current developments in the Arab arena, the Middle East peace process, means of backing the Arab negotiating position and efforts aimed at convening a pan-Arab summit.

The sources continued that the next meeting of the Damascus Declaration states will also deal with current conditions in Iraq and the Gulf region and the neighboring states, especially Turkey and Iran, and means of settling unresolved issues with these countries, especially the three Gulf islands under dispute between the United Arab Emirates and Iran.
