Member of the Israeli Knesset for the Arab group Azmi Bishara has welcomed the appointment of Knesset member Nawaf Maslaha as the deputy foreign minister in Israel, adding that such an appointment will not change Israel's foreign policy.

In an interview with the Israeli radio on Friday, Bishara added that the Israeli foreign policy is drawn by the prime minister and his government not by the foreign minister or his deputy.

Meantime, Nawaf Masalha, who is from the Arab list in the Israeli Knesset also said in a similar interview with the Israeli radio "we have to give the chance to Ehud Barak in order to meet with the representatives of the Palestinians and to work for settling their problems." He added " I did not join the Israeli foreign ministry to change the Israeli foreign policy."

He stressed that such a policy is put by the Israeli prime minister rather than the foreign minister.
