Two Belgians were released over the weekend from Moroccan jails, the Belgian press reported, quoting Belgium's Foreign Department, MAP reported. "

The release, which is part of the amnesty decreed by King Mohammed VI on the occasion of his accession to the Throne, were communicated by the Belgian consulate in Casablanca," the press reports said.

No details were given on the identity of the released persons, who had been sentenced for forgery and drug trafficking offenses. One of the released persons decided to settle in Morocco, while the second flew back to Belgium, the press said.

There are still 13 Belgian nationals in Moroccan jails, the press said, adding that seven of them had their sentences reduced, as part of the royal amnesty.
