Sudan asks for AL backing

Originally published

Sudan has asked the Arab League to back it in its confrontation of the US campaign led by certain US congress members in backing the proposal to separate southern Sudan from its northern part.

This was expressed in a Sudanese official memo, which the AL received for debate by the Arab foreign ministers in order to take an Arab decision to help Sudan in confronting the US campaign.

The memo added that the measures and projects supervised by the US Agency for International Development are in the areas controlled by the rebel movement in the southern and eastern parts of Sudan.

The memo indicated that these American measures and projects are not limited to humanitarian relief work, stating that the US practices in these areas are a flagrant violation of Sudan's sovereignty over its own territories and an intervention in its internal affairs.
