Governmental commission on priorities for use of cellular phone license receipts

Originally published

King Mohammed VI announced on Monday the creation of a governmental commission to set the priorities for the use of the receipts of the second license of the cellular phone (GSM).

The King made the announcement during a ministers council meeting he chaired on Monday.

King Mohammed VI also approved the draft decree related to Morocco's second GSM mobile phone license. He gave, in this connection, instructions to respect the directives made on the subject by his late father, King Hassan II, last July 8.

The Late King Hassan II had talked, in a speech he gave last July 8 on the occasion of the Youth Day, about the ceding of Morocco's second GSM mobile phone license to the Spanish-Portuguese-Moroccan consortium "Medi-telecoms" for $1.08 billion.

The late king had announced that part of the sum will finance job-generating projects. He had also stated that these projects will target, first of all, social housing, breaking the isolation of some areas, electrification, drinking water supply to the rural world, dams building, irrigation, development of the fishing sector and construction of highways.

During the ministers' council, King Mohammed VI insisted on the close and necessary collaboration between him and the government and renewed will to endeavor for the achievement of the noble aspirations of the Moroccan people.

At the beginning of the meeting, King Mohammed VI, Prince Moulay Rachid and the Cabinet members read out the Fatiha (first sourate of the Koran) in the memory of the late King Hassan II. The meeting was attended by the king's advisors.
