Morocco launches tender for building $250 million power plant
Morocco launched last weekend an international tender for the building of a $250 million combined-cycle power plant in the northern zone.
So far, five foreign construction groups have showed interest in the project to be carried out under the BOT formula (build, operate and transfer).
The project, which is expected to be operational by 2002, is part of Morocco's strategy to meet all its power needs in the few coming years.
To this end, The country is building in the northern zone a 50.4 megawatt (MW) windpower plant expected to produce about two percent of Morocco's energy needs.
