Communications between Tehran and Paris

Originally published

Communications are currently being made between Paris and Tehran in order to determine a new date for the visit of Iranian President Mohammed Khatami to France that was originally scheduled for last April.

Iran announced the visit's postponement due to a disagreement with the French people regarding a supper banquet in which the Iranians refuse to allow alcoholic drinks to be served.

In spite of these types of problems the commercial and economic relations between Tehran and Paris are developing remarkably since the election of Iranian President Mohammed Khatami in 1997.

The French company Elf signed in last spring two contract worth $900 millions with the Iranian national petroleum company to develop Iranian petroleum fields, and the French company will execute the contracts in association with Italian and Canadian companies.
