Saddam's daughter restores $1 million in profits

Originally published

The oldest daughter of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, Rana Hussein, has restored the profits of sums deposited by her late husband, Col. Kamel al-Majeed, in two banks in Jordan.

In May 1998, Rana Hussein reached a legal compromise that provided for withdrawing profits, estimated at US $1.03 million, from two banks in Amman, but the money was only transferred to Iraq following the approval of the Jordanian Islamic Sharia court and the orphanage fund which were keeping the sums.

The withdrawn profits constituted annual profits estimated at 5% for the sum of US $20 million deposited by the late al-Majeed in two banks in Amman.

Al-Majeed obtained political asylum in Jordan in 1995. Just one year later he returned to Iraq after he had received guarantees from Iraqi president Saddam Hussein not to be vulnerable, but was killed immediately upon arrival.
