Israelis say peace impossible without withdrawal from Golan
The Israeli daily Yediot Ahronot said in a recent issue that 66% of Israelis believe that peace is not possible without a full Israeli withdrawal from the Golan.
In a poll published on July 23 the paper added that 48% of participants in the poll back a complete withdrawal from the Golan and that they are ready to vote if the Knesset holds a referendum about this matter, while only 33% opposed such a withdrawal.
Some 73% of the Israelis who took part in the questionnaire said it is impossible to reach an agreement concerning withdrawal from south Lebanon without reaching a peace agreement with Syria, while another 34% said the opposite.
AFP, which highlighted the questionnaire, said it reflects progress in favor of withdrawal from the Golan and south Lebanon.
32% of the Israelis backed withdrawal from the Golan during December 1998, and 49% of the Israelis opposed such a withdrawal at that time.
