World Food Program fears food crisis in Sudan

Originally published

The World Food Program expressed yesterday fears of a worsening of the food crisis in southern Sudan, along with the continuation of fighting for the second consecutive week in West Nile.

The manager of the program for communications and supplies, Ramiro Luiz, said in press statements to ArabicNews.com that the situation creates anxiety.

He added that if the siege in place since July 14, 1999 was not lifted for sending humanitarian aid to the south, the region would face a real humanitarian disaster.

Luiz had previously said that the siege led to obstructing the activities of the World Food Program that send food aid to nearly 150 ,000 inhabitants of the regions destroyed by the war.
