Eritrea, Ethiopia and the peace plan
President Isaias Afwerki of Eritrea on Sunday in Asmara asserted that his country has approved the peace plan arrangements put forth by the Organization of African Unity in order to put an end to his country's fighting with Ethiopia.
AFP quoted an Eritrean official as saying that the assertion of the Eritrean president was also conveyed to US delegate Anthony Lake and to the OAU.
The peace plan prepared by the OAU called for the withdrawal of both the Eritrean and Ethiopian forces from the territories they occupied since the beginning of the conflict between the two countries on May 6, 1998.
A delegation representing the OAU and the US had visited Asmara last week in an attempt to implement the peace agreement. The OAU delegation was expected to return on Sunday to Asmara at the conclusion of talks with Addis Ababa.
