Palestinian forces refute campaigns against Syria
The central command of the Alliance of the Palestinian Forces has asserted its committment and adherence to its national principles and continued struggle to complete the Palestinian national project.
It highlighted the steadfastness of the "Arab live forces in opposition to normalizing relations with Israel" and highly appreciated "Syria's stand in supporting the struggle mounted by the Palestinian people."
In a political statement released in Damascus on Wednesday, the Palestinian leadership asserted that a campaigns of deception and doubts accompanying political developments aims at liquidating the cause of Palestine and undermining the steadfastness of the Arab states.
The statement denied rumors and claims which spoke of Syrian officials asking the Palestinian opposition groups to give up armed struggle, saying they are "groundless and baseless, aimed at undermining the unity of the Palestinian forces and creating disorder in Palestinian circles as well as undermining Syria's historical role in backing the central Arab cause of Palestine."
The statement added that Syria recognizes the difference between terrorism and people's rights to just struggle in order to achieve their just rights.
The statement asserted the commitment of the Palestinian forces and their adherence to the resolutions of the Palestinian National Conference, which was held in Damascus in December 1998, in adherence to the Palestinian national charter and the rights of "our people" to struggle and in rejecting surrender solutions.
The statement said that the calls advocated in the Palestinian arena to maintain dialogue and unity with Palestinian President Yasser Arafat to withstand what is called the requirements of the final status, aims at giving a cover to the conspiracy of liquidating the cause of Palestine, abrogating the Palestinian national congress and giving up objectives of the national struggle.
The statement warned against extreme optimism toward Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak's government and recalled his "three nos" in having Jerusalem as the united and eternal capital of Israel, keeping the settlements, and rejecting the return of Palestinian refugees.
The statement strongly criticized the US backing for Israel and the new arms deal worth US $8 billion.
