Saleh a candidate for Yemeni presidency

Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh on Tuesday officially asked for nominating himself for the post of president of the republic for the term extending from 1999 until 2004 in the next presidential elections.

The Yemeni news agency SABA quoted President Saleh as saying after submitting the required documents to the Yemeni Parliament Speaker that he has "nominated himself at the request of the People's General Conference, the National Coalition for Reforms and the opposition National Council."
