OAU summit continues deliberations
The 35th summit of the Organization of African Unity continued its deliberation in Algiers on Tuesday, under the chairmanship of Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, who is also the current president of the OAU.
The African heads of state and governments taking part in the summit discussed issues pertaining to collective security and the problem of inter-African conflicts.
The participants also discussed the means through which arising conflicts can be dealt with in the African continent to give these countries the chance to boost development and maintain the prosperity of their people instead of being dragged to civil wars and accumulating foreign debts as a result of these continuous conflicts.
In their interventions, several of the participating presidents highlighted the issue of the economic merging of the continent.
Tuesday's session also dealt with the second item put on the meeting's agenda on dealing with the challenges of globalization and establishing an African economic group which was proposed by the council of African foreign ministers in its 76th session held last week in Algeria.
