Conference in Rabat calls for respect of copyright

Originally published

Participants in a meeting held in Rabat this June 21-22 called for the respect of copyright and for fighting privacy, counterfeiting and plagiarism.

Participants, including delegates of the ministries of interior, communication, trade, cultural affairs and posts and telecommunications and customs and police officers said piracy, counterfeiting and plagiarism of industrial and intellectual products hinder the country's economic and intellectual development.

The conference also called for consolidating laws that repress copyright violations.

A French expert who took part in the conference said out of each four software in use in Morocco, three are unauthorized copies. He added that this illegal practice discourages foreign investors and brakes creativity.

For the expert, Morocco has to train law-enforcement officers in the prevention of privacy.
