Syrian vice- president, officials confer with ESCWA officials

Syrian Vice President Abdul Halim Khaddam on Monday received the secretary of the Economic and Social Committee of Western Asia (ESCWA), Hazem al-Beblawi.

Talks dealt with the activities carried out by ESCWA and its role in developing Arab economic relationships, international economic developments and their impacts on the developing countries, including the Arab states. The two sides stressed the importance of fruitful cooperation between Syria and ESCWA in various fields.

Talks dealt with issues pertaining to ESCWA's activities and the services rendered by it in various industrial, trade and technological area. Ways and means of getting benefits from available expertise in strengthening relations between the region and the world states were also discussed.

Similar meetings were also held between the Syrian prime minister, the deputy premier for economic affairs, the ministers of state for planning and the agriculture and the ESCWA official, during which he expressed satisfaction for the long-standing cooperation between Syria and ESCWA and the positive reaction Syria shows to its efforts and activities.
