Morocco does not import animal fat-flour feed in view of high prices
Morocco does not import animal fat or flour feed in view of their high prices, a senior Moroccan official told Thursday "Medi-1" radio station based in Tangier (Northern Morocco).
Moroccan poultry, which are fed exclusively with cereals, are hence dioxin-free products, said Abdelhak Tber, head of the breeding and sanitary control department at the Agriculture Ministry
He said Morocco does not import chickens or eggs, as the local poultry production fully meets domestic needs.
He confirmed that about 11 tons of Belgian meat, including 95% of pork products and derivatives, were withdrawn from the Moroccan market.
Following the outbreak of the dioxin scandal in Belgium, Morocco banned all imports of Belgian poultry, meat, porks and byproducts and decided to tighten control over all European animal products.
The chicken crisis was caused by a Belgian company, which has been providing contaminated fat to European feed manufacturers since January.
