Efforts fail to convince King Abdullah to visit Iraq

Originally published

Leading sources in the Jordanian opposition told the Kuwaiti daily al-Rai al-Am on Sunday that attempts made by Baghdad's pro-Jordanian Baath Party have failed to convince other opposition parties to call on King Abdullah to visit Iraq.

The sources stated that leaders of the opposition parties see such a proposal as a sort of political absurdity, "because it is only the Jordanian people who will pay the bill for such a visit."

The sources asked, "For whose interests the Baathists seek to put Jordan in circles of isolation and siege and why do they seek to settle the crisis of the Iraqi regime at the expense of the Iraqi citizen?"
