Originally published

The Yemeni opposition's weekly newspaper, Raei, said that the security authorities in Yemen arrested last week a new group of Aden's Abyan Islamic Army affiliated to the Islamic Jihad on a charge of planning terrorist actions in the country, including kidnapping foreigners.

The newspaper quoted official security as saying, "Yemeni security forces chased this group which comprises five persons from different Arab nationalities till they were arrested."

It has also said that "Declaring arresting the new group which is considered the last cell belongs to Aden Abyan Army comes after a new threat made by the Islamic Jihad, in which it threatens foreigners with assassination."

The chief of Islamic Jihad group in Yemen, El-Hassan El-Mehdar, was sentenced to death two weeks ago in a case regarding the killing of Western tourists in Abyan in last December, but Mehdar's lawyer appealed the sentence.
