Morocco welcomes with optimism outcome of Israeli elections
Morocco has welcomed with optimism the outcome of the Israeli elections and said it will resume its traditional role so that peace prevails.
"Morocco is welcoming with optimism the outcome of the Israeli elections and considers the Israeli people's choice as the evidence of their will to resume dialogue in the frame of the peace process between Palestinians and Israelis," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation said in a statement made public on Monday.
"Morocco considers that the results of these elections open promising perspectives for the Syrian and Lebanese tracks of the Middle East peace process," the statement said, adding that "Morocco will be, in this case, among the first to resume its traditional role so that the cause of peace prevails."
Labor Party leader Ehud Barak won a landslide victory in the Israeli elections over Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and garnered, according to the partial results, 56% of the votes to 44% for Netanyahu.
