Moroccan clubs qualify for African cups quarter finals

Originally published

Three Moroccan clubs competing for the three African clubs cups managed to make it to the quarter finals in perilous matches.

In Bamako, Raja Club of Casablanca snatched qualification for the quarter final of the African champions league, following a difficult match against Djoliba club of Mali. The Moroccans, who had defeated the Malians 2-1 two weeks ago in Casablanca, booked their qualification ticket after penalty kicks (5-3), the return match having wound up with a 2-1 victory for Djoliba.

In the African cup of cup winners, the military team of Rabat "FAR" beat Nigeria's Wikki Tourists 2-0 in Rabat. The Nigerians who had lost the away match at home 1-0, caused much trouble for the Moroccans, who missed a series of net scoring chances.

In Casablanca, a deadly mistake of the keeper of the Senegalese Djaraf club at the 90th minute of the game pushed the Moroccan prestigious Wydad club to the quarter final of the African confederation (CAF) cup.

Wydad, which had tied 1-1 two weeks ago in Dakar with Djaraf, suffered a lot from the lack of efficiency of its players. While the two teams were heading towards extra time, a 30-meter shot by Khalid Bensheikh slipped past the Senegalese keeper, though author of an excellent performance.
