Accusing the Palestinian government of detaining innocent citizens
The Palestinian organization Al-Damir accused the Palestinian government of detaining Palestinian opposition members, considering their detention not only a violation of human rights but an obstacle before achieving a democratic society based on respect for public and individual liberties.
The director of El-Damir, Khalil Abu Shamala, said the Palestinian prisons are known to have political detainees, and he presented a list that included the names of tens of detainees in these prisons in Gaza and the West Bank, stating that the total number of the political detainees is 181 in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
Meanwhile, the chief of the Palestinian lawyers, Abd El-Rahman Abu El-Naker, called for prohibiting political detention and respecting the primacy of law by all Palestinian bodies, adding that not appointing an attorney general after the resignation of the former one created a legal and judicial defect and that everyone in the Palestinian government is responsible for this problem.
