Christine Serfaty turned back at Rabat airport for National security reasons
Ms. Christine Daure Serfaty was turned back to France at the Rabat airport "for activities harmful to Morocco's national interests and causes."
She is banned to set foot in Morocco by virtue of a 1991 decision by the Moroccan national security department.
The ban is also motivated by Ms. Serfaty's activism within anti-Moroccan associations, especially associations that back the Polisario separatists who claim sovereignty over Morocco's southern provinces.
Morocco, being a sovereign state, is free to allow or ban the access of any foreign person to its national territory, authorized sources commented.
Christine Serfaty is the spouse of Abraham Serfaty, who had served several years in prison in Morocco for attempt to the state's security. In 1991, he was expelled from Morocco after evidence showed that he does not hold the Moroccan citizenship.
