Originally published

Former US Undersecretary of State Herman Cohen arrived in Tripoli on Sunday night on a visit to Libya that will last for several days.

In an arrival statement, Cohen said he has come to Libya on the grounds of his "conviction of the importance of dialogue among peoples and countries and as an assertion to the importance of dialogue when relations among states are not among their proper framework."

He added that positive developments have opened the way for the necessary dialogue between Libya and the US. He commended Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi's traits of respect, wisdom and bravery."

Libyan television did not specify whether the US former official's visit is official or private.
