Belgium considers Sahara issue should be settled through political solutions
The Sahara issue should be settled through negotiated political solutions where mediators can play a leading role, said Belgian prime minister, Jean-Luc Dehaene, who started this Tuesday a visit to Morocco.
In an interview with MAP bureau in Brussels, the head of the Belgian government added that if the referendum could be the solution, it should not be rejected.
"Personally," he went on, "I have never considered, neither in Belgium nor elsewhere, that a referendum is the miracle solution."
"My experience taught me that the debate deviates rapidly from the core topic to other issues which have nothing to do with the real problems," he stated.
