Cairo hosts ALESCO meeting

Deliberations of the first scientific conference organized by the Arab League Education, Culture and Sciences Organisation (ALESCO) started on Sunday in Cairo at Arab League headquarters. Arab experts and specialists in the area of information are taking part.

The first conference on "Arab information and challenges of globalization" discussed a number of issues related to this subject. These include topics such as Arab information and challenges of the new information order and the restructuring of the mass media.

In an inaugural address Arab League Secretary General Esmat Abdul Meguid said the media shoulders big responsibilities in challenging "globalization." He underlined the role played by the Arab media in preserving the Arab character and status while dealing with other nations.
