intensive diplomatic move to rescue Maghreb union.

Originally published

Moroccan diplomatic sources in Cairo announced that there is a diplomatic move to activate the role of the Arab Maghreb Union, which comprises Algeria, Libya, Tunisia, Morocco, and Egypt as a supervisor.

This comes after the first relaxation in the Lockerbie impasse and the suspension of UN sanctions over Tripoli, yet international problems and different difficulties between the union's countries obstruct the organization's role as a pivot of bilateral cooperation between member states.

Due to the problem of the Moroccan Sahara between Morocco and Algeria, Rabat halted its membership four years ago.

Due to unrest, Algeria delayed activating the union's role. International sanctions were imposed on Libya, and both of Egypt and Tunisia tried to activate this role as a strong regional bloc including Mauritania in this union and with Egypt obtaining full membership.
