Confrontation in Somalia

At least 11 persons were killed and another 15 were wounded during tribal confrontations between two warring Somali groups. The confrontations erupted last week in Heiran district in the center of Somalia.

AFP quoted Kosogal daily in Makadishu as saying that militias belonging to the Shedly tribe and elements from al-Haweyah tribe are fighting over a well drilled by a UN humanitarian organization, resulting in confrontations between the two sides.

For his part chairman of the group in defence of Shedly tribal rights called upon various groups to settle their disputes peacefully. He said he sent the elderly on a mission of mediation in the area.
