Kuwait denies to have fired on Iraqi boat
Kuwait has denied to have opened fire on an Iraqi fishing boat in the North of the Arab Gulf but it admitted that it had inspected an Iraqi boat while roaming in the Kuwaiti territorial waters on the 18th of March.
In its Friday's issue, the Kuwaiti daily al-Rai al-Aam quoted a spokesman for the coasts police as saying "no fire was opened by a Kuwaiti patrol against an Iraqi boat." He added " an Iraqi fishing boat entered the Kuwaiti territorial waters in Khour Abdullah district, deliberately and was seized and checked and inspected by the Kuwaiti police and nothing prohibited was found on it and was therefore returned back to the Iraqi waters after inspection.
Last Wednesday Iraq accused Kuwait of opening fire against an Iraqi fishing boat in the Iraqi territorial waters and this was expressed in a message Iraq sent to the UN Secretary General handed over by the Iraqi representative at the UN. The Iraqi complaint claimed that two Kuwaiti coastal police ships opened fire on March 18 against the boat and the fire resulted in breaking its windows
