Sanctions on Libya to be suspended immediately after Lockerbie suspects handed over
Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa received the Arab League's deputy at the UN, Hussein Hassona, who presented to Moussa the Arab issues raised at the UN, specifically Iraq and the Lockerbie impasse.
Hassoua expressed his hope that a fair trial would be held for the two Libyan suspects in the Lockerbie case and that the sanctions would be totally lifted from Libya.
Hassoua also said the Security Council would suspend sanctions immediately after Libya hands over the two suspects and in addition that the UN secretary general will present within 90 days a report on Libya carrying out all its commitments to Security Council decisions so the sanctions can finally be lifted.
Hassoua also stated that the three committees affiliated to the UN, and authorized to evaluate the situation in Iraq, will raise in the middle of April a comprehensive report on all sides concerning humanitarian issues, disarmament, and monitoring weapons of mass destruction, raising new formulas for installing a long-term weapons monitoring system to increase the response for lifting suffering and increasing humanitarian aid to the Iraqi people.
