European community contributed 80 million euros to Moroccan-Spanish power connection

The European community has contributed 80 Million euros to the Moroccan-Spanish electricity interconnection which was dedicated in 1998.

Responding to a European deputy's question on the project, the vice-president of the European commission in charge of relations with the southern Mediterranean countries underlined the importance of this energy project for the two neighboring countries economies and affirmed that the funds were provided by the European Investment Bank on behalf of the European Union within the frame of the fourth Moroccan-European financial protocol.

The inter-electricity connection via a high-tension submarine cable supplies the two countries with 700 megawatts every twenty minutes.
