Palestinian milling company ceases work

Originally published

The Palestinian Mills Company based in Gaza halted work two months after beginning its production due to the dumping of Israeli flour in Palestinian markets.

In a press statement released today, the general manager of the company, Shaker Alafa, said that the company's mills, which are supposed to produce 210 tonnes of fine flour daily in addition to 40 tonnes of other derivatives, were paralyzed because some Palestinian merchants whose interests are connected to Israel have flooded Gaza markets with Israeli flour.

He added that the volume of the company's production since it began work last January through the middle of March amounted to 2,750 tonnes, of which the company was able to merchandize 910.

He then said the company's capital is worth $20 million.
