Damascus hosts Arab meteorology meeting
The permanent Arab Meteorology Committee has asserted the need to develop human capabilities and technology in Arab meteorology utilities so as to cope with global technical developments in this field.
At the conclusion of its 15th session, held in Damascus, the committee recommended reactivating scientific research and applications to think about joint means to improve telecommunications networks. The committee decided to put into force the unified project on meteorological information and to work to develop it.
The participants in the committee's deliberations agreed to coordinate Arab positions at the next meeting of the International Meteorology Organization in Geneva and to work to get the organization to take a decision that bans Israel from continuing to receive meteorological information from the old Jerusalem airport.
The committee also agreed to adopt a proposal made by Syria to form a work team to support the use of Arabic in the activities of the organization for Arab meteorology and the world meteorology organization.
