Syria ready to mediate between UAE and Iran

Syria asked the United Arab Emirates if the UAE wants Syria to intervene with Iran to smooth the atmospheres between the two countries over the three Gulf islands occupied by Iran and claimed by both countries.

Syrian sources told the London-based al-Hayat daily that Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa proposed this offer to his UAE counterpart, Rashid Abdullah al-Nueimi, during their Wednesday meeting in one of AL headquarters' conference halls in Cairo.

Well-informed sources in Cairo said that the UAE showed consent for the Syrian intervention and expressed best wishes for the success of the mediation.
