UN Security Council meets on fighting between Ethiopia, Eritrea
It was announced in new York on Monday night that the UN Security Council will ask both Eritrea and Ethiopia to honor the peace plan drawn by the Organization of African Unity to settle their border disputes.
AFP quoted diplomats at the UN as saying that the UN Security Council, which discussed the situation between the two countries in a closed-door meeting has assigned its chairman, Chinese representative Kin Huwason, to summon the permanent representatives of the two warring countries to the United States.
A Western diplomat said the British representative to the UN Security Council said that it is the responsibility of the Organization of African Unity to clarify its plan for peace.
The western diplomat added that UN Secretary General Kofi Annan has announced his readiness to search, in person, for a solution that would have been discussed during the meeting held on Tuesday in Washington, during the ministerial meeting between the US and Africa.
