The Arab ministerial committee charged by the meeting of the consultation committee of the Arab foreign ministers to follow up on moves with the UN Security Council to lift the economic sanctions imposed on Iraq will convene its first meeting on March 17 and 18 in the framework of the meetings of the 111th session of the Arab League to be held under the chairmanship of Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa.

A high-ranking Arab diplomatic source in Cairo said the committee will discuss in its meeting the future Arab plan to follow up moves with the UN Security Council to lift the economic sanctions from Iraq.

This will be made in light of the work paper prepared by the AL general secretariat on this issue.

For his part, AL Secretary General Esmat Abdul Meguid said the objective of the committee is to work for the interest of Iraq and not against it. He added that the committee also seeks to lift the economic sanctions as well as the sufferings of the Iraqi people.
