Iraq - explosions
UN spokesman Fred Eckhard said yesterday that two bombs exploded this week in Iraq, the first on March 9 in Erbil near the home of a UN Food and Agriculture staff member's residence. This explosion, using a homemade device hidden in a garbage container, wounded three local security guards on duty on UN premises.
The second explosion, Eckhard said, took place in Dohuk in front of the Turkman Front Relations Office, a local political party, near the offices of the United Nations Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the World Health Organization (WHO). The bomber, who carried the explosives, died in the incident.
