Moussa: Egypt will follow up on current contacts to solve Lockerbie issue
Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa announced that his country is following up current contacts between the United Nations and Libya concerning the Lockerbie crisis, stating that Libya is concerned with a nearby solution to the crisis.
Following his discussions with the secretary of the People's External Liaison and International Cooperation Bureau in Libya, Omar al-Montassir, Moussa said yesterday that the discussions tackled the Lockerbie issue and the situation in the Middle East as the Lockerbie crisis was one of the major topics Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi tackled in his talks with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.
Al-Montassir said that his discussion with Moussa tackled bilateral relations and means of supporting them.
Concerning the factors hindering the settlement of the Lockerbie crisis, al-Montassir said the issue is to be settled as soon as possible and nothing can obstruct it.
Al-Montassir, moreover, confirmed Libya's insistence on lifting sanctions and not simply suspending them, adding that Libya is waiting for a guarantee of a fair trail for the suspects.
